Chef Bobbo HTX (catering)

Challenges in the Lao business is the support and criticism from our own people.

What's the name of your business and how did you come up with it?

The name of my business is ChefBobboHTX, my nickname is Bob and throughout the years my friends would call me Chef Bob after always being the one to cook for them. So it’s basically says Chef Bobbo in Houston Texas!

What are your inspirations for being in the food industry?

My inspiration comes from loving to eat Lao food as a child and my parents always told me if that’s what you like, you’ll have to learn to cook it yourself. So throughout my childhood I would learn how to make certain Lao dishes I love to eat and tried to perfect it.

What were some of your challenges being a Lao business?

Challenges in the Lao business is the support and criticism from our own people. Our food is made with love and passion, but is easily critiqued as not being good enough or lacking this and that, but everyone has their own way of making these dishes to their satisfaction. I can just hope my supporters enjoy my food and can taste the passion I have for creating Lao dishes!

What advice would you give to someone based on your experience?

I would say my best advice is to just keep pushing your love for what you are doing! There will be many challenges along the way. Also keep supporting your local Lao businesses, our food is sometimes an after thought and I would love to see more people enjoying our cuisine.

What's your favorite Lao dish?

Soop Nor Mai, that was the first dish I loved as a child and one of the first dishes I learned how to make!
