Owners of Thai on Main Street

“We love being able to share a bit of Lao cuisine & culture with people, many of whom have never heard of Laos.”

What's the name of your business and how did you come up with it?

Our restaurant is Thai on Main Street. We bought the restaurant in January 2020, and kept the name for a variety of reasons. Two months after we opened, Covid shut us (and all other restaurants) down, and we just had to focus on making sure we could survive.

What are your inspirations for being in the food industry?

To share amazing authentic home-style & street food and give people the experience of being transported to another place. We love being able to share a bit of Lao cuisine & culture with people, many of whom have never heard of Laos.

What were some of your challenges being a Lao business?

It’s a joyful challenge: explaining to people who have never tried Lao food what makes Lao cuisine unique and how different it is from Thai food.

What advice would you give to someone based on your experience?

Having a restaurant, right now in particular, is challenging — but, so worth it when your’re fulfilling your passion. 🇱🇦 Stay brave, go for it and promote that Lao food!

What's your favorite Lao dish?

Favorite? That’s hard!! Khao poon katee, laab gai, ping gai and jeow nor mai som.
