“People have their own taste, some might like it and some might not, and that’s one thing I’ve learned to accept. for example some say it’s not spicy enough but some say it’s too spicy. “

What's the name of your business and how did you come up with it?

Smack Sauce! I actually got the name from my brother-in-law who’s from Stockton California. And here in Stockton if something is really good they say it’s Smack! So that’s how I got the name for my sauce

What are your inspirations for being in the food industry?

I really love food point blank. Lol I’m a fat boy who loves to eat! I like being creative in the kitchen. I am not one who follows others recipes or instructions, I make my own version and if others like it, it makes me happy. I like seeing others enjoying my food. It’s a good feeling because one day I would like to open my own restaurant. It’s always been a dream of mine.

What were some of your challenges being a Lao business?

In the beginning the challenges were “pleasing people” But then I come to realize that I cannot please everyone. People have their own taste, some might like it and some might not, and that’s one thing I’ve learned to accept. for example some say it’s not spicy enough but some say it’s too spicy. Hopefully in the future we can make different spice levels.

What advice would you give to someone based on your experience?

Never give up! Keep believing in yourself. Accept feedbacks and learn from it. Keep pushing because sky’s the limit.

What's your favorite Lao dish?

Oooh… that’s a hard one! Too many to name! Lol. I would have to go with the basics and that’s chicken wings, sticky rice and papaya salad 😊.
